No one asked where the necklace had been, informed us if there were any cameras in the corridor, who might have accessed the room, came to the room to speak with us etc. When I asked if there would be any further investigation, I was informed that there would not be. I asked if we could be connected to the police, and they declined to do this. They started to describe the necklace as 'lost' rather than stolen (won't bore further with the details but it was very obviously stolen) And that was the end of the matter as far as the hotel management were concerned. They said housekeeping 'hadn't seen' the necklace. Having heard nothing I contacted reception again for an update. We were checking out the same morning to fly home (perhaps the timing of the theft wasn't a coincidence). But what happened next was really shocking for a hotel that purports to be 5 star. We obviously reported it to the hotel immediately - there was initially a sympathetic response and the member of staff we spoke to said she would contact the housekeeping team immediately, and all seemed to be progressing in a reasonable way. I understand these things happen (although they have never happened to me in 40 years of international travel), and I am also sympathetic to the socioeconomic conditions that drive this type of theft.

'On our final night here, a stay the hotel knew was for our 10th wedding anniversary, the diamond necklace I had bought for my wife for said anniversary was stolen from our (keycard locked) room after housekeeping had cleaned it. The room was spacious, with nice finishes and the staff was incredibly responsive. This is truly a luxury hotel, not like most you find online. Loyalty chains allow that easier if you have status' 'The Hotel is in good location and from here all attractions of the city are in walking distance. No late check-out after arriving past midnight is a deal killer to not stay there next time. Overall solid hotel and location, though service could be better. Had breakfast included, good buffett with items off menu as well and cordial service. Since arriving late had to order room service, but they dropped of bottles of Coca-Cola with no bottle opener (and none in room), so couldnt drink til next day. Marble shower with nice water pressure in shower. That was very disappointing, considering checked-in near midnight. Despite that, hotel WOULDN’T allow even an hour later checkout (noon to 1pm). Checked in late due to late-arriving flight - close to midnight. They’re adding more metro stops - constructionin process. Take one more stop down and walk to metro near riverfront. Outside the hotel is the Aliados metro station. Location is good near the Porto waterfront. Signage is tricky as all buildings look alike.
